Style Gone Mad

Banana Republic collaborated with "Mad Men," launching a high-profile campaign to promote the show as well as the season's key pieces to wear to work. Here's the copy I wrote that was featured in hundreds of store windows coast to coast.

Mad Men Guide to Style

Word has it that even "Mad Men" creator Matthew Weiner enjoyed reading this style guide, created in partnership with Banana Republic. From cover to cover, I provided the original writing - from blurbs on key characters to product descriptions to how to pull together a head-to-toe work look that would turn heads.

Dress the Part

Banana Republic partnered with the hit TV series, "Mad Men," and my "role" was to craft a loud-and-clear message that encouraged customers to enter a casting call for a walk-on part. BR cardholders received this piece with their monthly statement. The casting call lured thousands of hopefuls to participate.

The Wool Trouser ... Read All About It!

This spread is from a direct mail piece featuring Banana Republic's Fall 2010 ad campaign, "Life at Work." I provided all of the original editorial, including this "newsflash" about the brand's newsworthy wool trouser.

Have BananaCard, Will Travel

Banana Republic re-branded its entire credit card program, and I was a key collaborator on the team that delivered a new look, feel and tone that was elevated, modern and sophisticated. For this brochure, I composed all of the passport/travel-themed original text.

Thank You. Thank You. Thank You.

The challenge: think up a promotional event title that would give Banana Republic's private label credit card customers that VIP feeling. I proposed "The Thank You Event," which was enthusiastically received for its perfect mix of charm and succinctness in conveying the brand's modern, effortless style aesthetic. The title continues to be used today.

Try This On For Size

I wrote this special offer card to appease BR customers who couldn't find their chino sizes. Note how it infuses the brand's signature touch of wit to make an otherwise simple message pop.

More Than Meets the Eye

Banana Republic needed to build buzz around its new sunglass collection. So I collaborated with a graphic designer to create this brochure that introduces the line with strong images and a compelling back story.

Less Is More. Way More.

The challenge for this Banana Republic promotion was to convey a tiered offer in a fresh and original way. In crafting this tagline, I was inspired by the obvious double entendre, which aligned perfectly with the brand's clean, modern, often playful voice.

More to Love. More to Give.

Will you be my Valentine? That's the question I wanted this credit card statement insert to pop - in so many words or less.

Style by the Drawerful

What better way for a retailer to push its collection of men's wardrobe basics? A sale! But I thought it'd be more brand appropriate to position this Banana Republic promo as an event with a fresh, original and somewhat masculine title.

A Dashing Offer

This holiday "bounceback" was given out in stores to encourage customers to share their discount with a friend. The phrasing is a fresh twist on "making a list and checking it twice."

Style: Let It Show. Let It Show. Let It Show.

As Senior Editorial Manager for Banana Republic, I partnered with teams from three other Gap brands to create this multi-offer piece that was distributed in all stores. My inspiration for the text was to take a familiar holiday song, in this case two - "Do You Hear What I Hear?" and "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow." - and transform them into a message that conveys warmth, gifting and style.

A Sale Dressed in Holiday Style

How could we make a holiday sale more compelling and capture the voice of the brand - all in one place? Create whimsical graphics with copy to match. For this Banana Republic promo, I borrowed from the lyrics of a popular holiday jingle and added a twist of style to make it feel fresh and relevant.

The Building Blocks of City Style

Key product stories. Styling suggestions. Where to go. What to do. This piece has it all and I crafted the original copy for it all. Handed out in stores, the brochure featured "insider" destinations within major cities plus special offers from Banana and discounts from the brand's airline and hotel partners.

It's Easy Being Green

Banana Republic participated in a green campaign, donating 1% of sales to the Trust for Public Land. I composed the messaging for this flier as well as all store signage that supported the cause. It was also my idea to provide a tagline, "Greener. One Step at a Time," to accompany the green elephant logo.

American Style. From Beginning to West End.

In Spring 2008, Banana Republic made its European debut with a new flagship store on London's famous Regent Street. Here are some of the launch pieces for which I provided the original words - taglines that convey the arrival of American style to a major European destination - all with a touch of the brand's signature wit.
